2017 YOUTH HUNTER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course was held at the Pembroke Outdoor Sportsman’s Club (POSC) on Sat April 8th and Sun April 9th for 20 youths from all areas of Renfrew County.
They attended the Hunter Safety Education Course at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNR&F) building in Pembroke for 2 nights, 10 and 11 April, between 5pm to 10 pm.
Their next activity was a Family Day at the POSC on Sat Aug 26th where they honed their skills shooting skeet under the direct supervision of Club Members. This was the first time many of the youth fired a shotgun.
During the evening of Fri Sep 8, they met the mentors who would take them out hunting ducks and geese. They met again the next morning between 4-5 am at the Irving, at the corner of hwy 17 & 41, to go hunting.
After the hunt they returned to the MNR&F base at the Pembroke waterfront where they were taught to clean the fowl they harvested and they finished their day with a barbeque lunch.
The 2017 Youth program has ended. Stay tuned for next years program.
